- TxDOT has amended its standard specification for earthen fill construction so that TxDOT's compaction standard can be applied to actual fill compaction in construction. This amendment (TxDOT Embankment -132-011) enables engineers and contractors to know optimum moisture-density in construction and gives assurance that the compaction specs are met in field compaction, as opposed to lab compaction. This specification is also approved by the FHWA and the AGC.

In accordance with TxDOT request, ESOL has added soil-specific Tex-114-E compaction curves to its online service
This addition provides stabilized lab reference curves corrected according to standard dry-unit weight relations, specific to the soil properties which is the only variable of the lab standard. This energy-soil specific correction provides the lab lines-of-optimums which are generally close and parallel with the field lines-of-optimums. This addition provides stabilized reference standards and unprecedented control when using lab reference curves. Use of these stabilized curves alone for construction control will not provide total solution to the process control problems plaguing the industry, but use of these curves will provide control for resulting compaction states.
